MAHARLIKA DRAGON FRUIT AND INTEGRATED FARMS

BY THE SEXY FARMER

Maharlika as the name suggests refers to a person of high rank associated with nobility. The owner, farmer and nurse-entrepreneur, Dr. George C. Cordero traces his noble ancestry from Spain. Thus, he named his farm as MAHARLIKA. This means his dragon fruit produce and seedlings are world class because the seedlings (that eventually became mother trees) that he bought are of superior pedigree sourced from reputable dragon fruit farms around the world and he personally selected them upon expert advice of his contacts abroad.

Currently he has almost seventeen (17) variety of dragon fruit species popular of which are the Peruvian red, ______, and________ variety that he is propagating in his fifteen (15)-hectare farm located in Barangay___________ in Tanay Rizal. Dr. Cordero is supplying high quality dragon fruits seedling to farmers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and they are all satisfied with the seedlings they bought at a very reasonable price.

Visit Maharlika Farm and you will be mesmerized by the beauty and majesty of the place that is also teeming with various local and exotic fruit bearing trees, animals, fish ponds and rice fields. Dr. Cordero envisions Maharlika Dragon Fruit and Integrated Farm in the very near future as an agri-tourism place where families can relax and enjoy a farm life fit for a royalty!

Agriculture Secretary William Dar and private sector stakeholders involved in dragon fruit production discussed how the country’s dragon fruit industry could grow and benefit farmers during their visit at the Maharlika Integrated Farm in Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal on February 25, 2021.
Dr. George Cordero, farm owner and founder of the Philippine College of Health Sciences, shared that there are 17 varieties of dragon fruit planted on his farm.
Secretary Dar said that Dr. Cordero’s organic farm can be developed into a farm tourism and business school and a multiplier breeder farm to be recognized by the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI).
The agri chief and Dr. Cordero were joined by agripreneur Basil Bolinao, who is leading a group of dragon fruit farmers and industry stakeholders for the establishment of the Dragon Fruit Industry Development Council. He presented their plans on building the dragon fruit industry in the coming years through the use of new technologies.
Secretary Dar shared the DA’s key strategies and told the group to practice inclusive agribusiness. He also highlighted how the private sector can help local farmers through the big brother-small brother approach.
